An anthology of some popular spooky tales by various authors, compiled by V. A scarce first World's Classics edition of this collection of stories concerning ghosts and the supernatural. Oxford : Humphrey Milford, Oxford University Press, 1924. James own "Casting the Runes," (although James's introduction is even handed and delighted with his task, in an analytical fashion, he barely mentions his own contribution, instead making clear his admiration for… Fifteen justly feted supernatural tales including Stevenson's "The Body Snatchers", and M.R. Internally clean, and as always produced to a very aesthetically pleasing standard for a tiny book intended to travel with one. The whole can be described as very good mainly because dustwrappers are the exception rather than the rule on 93 year old copies of the Oxford World Classics. Publisher's dark green cloth titled in very dulled gilt to spine, minor shelfwear and a little scuffing, strong and tight in a clean example of the dustwrapper with some chipping and loss to extremities, closed tears and small sections of loss to spine ends and a general fragility. Second World Classics Printing (the first being 1924). Oxford: Humphrey Milford at University Press, 1925.

As far as author events go, I will be attending Book Bonanza in June. I’ve seen some of the artwork already and it is so stunning. What else is going on? Well, I have some plans with a couple different book boxes, one of which is my Fallen World series. It will release before book two in the series, which is set to come out spring of 2024. I’m tentatively planning on that novella to be released fall/winter of this year, though that is a guestimate. I’m now working on the second book in my Bewitched series, along with the novella that will come between books one and two. But I am excited to be able to release the e-book, print book, and the audiobook all on the same day, so hurrah to that! And Bewitched will be in Kindle Unlimited, for those of you who are members. To be honest, these are totally new waters I’m navigating-to have a traditional publisher handle the print books. This book is already complete-at the moment I believe copies of it are getting printed for its spring release. It feels like ages since I’ve sat down at my desk, but I’m finally back! And, as promised, here’s a bit about what’s going on this year: I’ll be releasing Bewitched, the first book in a new paranormal romance series, on April 18, 2023. She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. Mara Dyer doesn’t think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. Here are some mini reviews: The plot summary gave almost no information and I really didn’t know if this was a mystery or paranormal series. I had put off reading these books for a while because they seemed a little… not Lauren-y? I like books about memory loss and the aftereffects, but this series seemed to weird and creepy for me. That was definitely the case for the Mara Dyer trilogy. I love getting addicted to a world and seeing what happens post-cliffhanger in the next book. It takes a lot for me to really keep engaged and read “the same thing” back-to-back like this… So when I do it, you know it’s worth it! I was definitely late to the party on this one and have no one to blame but myself. As you know, I love to binge a good series when I can. They are meant to give the believer a hope that transcends earthly power, a sense of control and domination over every challenge humans could possibly encounter. These two beliefs provide a fundamental way humans are supposed to view challenges and obstacles in their way in life. The Christians believe that they would never face any temptation they wouldn’t be able to bear and stand against, but that God would with every temptation provide a way of escape. Every challenge a person chooses is one they would be able to overcome and would push them to learn and grow but would not defeat them. The Celts have a legend that says, just before a person is born they are allowed to choose every hardship that they would experience during their life time. So without further ado, let’s get into this. The Obstacle Is The Way is a collection of stories and principles about Stoicism, a philosophy I stumbled upon last year and I’ve found very helpful, thanks to books like this and authors like Ryan Holiday who also wrote The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living. I actually wrote this last year after reading the book, but seeing Tim Ferriss recommend it again in his newsletter made me decide to share this: Regardless of social or religious views or whether it comes from birth or is learned, can a person be gay? Of course. I think those two movements should be viewed separately. Yet now the “transgender” movement has come alongside the gay rights movement and said those things aren’t so. That issue has been settled for mankind – and all other species – from time immemorial. Only a male can be a father only a woman can give birth. Yet so many in America, only within the past five years or so, have lost all concept of these truths. Those statements are so simple they’re only meant for the youngest of audiences. A father’s something you could be,” while Mama Bear tells Sister Bear, “I’m a mother. Every single bear we see is a he bear or a she.” Then Papa Bear tells Brother Bear, “I’m a father. Fair enough I’ll go along with that as would just about anyone who has observed what women can do in the workplace.īut I found an interesting undercurrent related to current events. My 4-year-old daughter loves the Berenstain Bears right now, and we read one of those classic books this week called “He Bear, She Bear.” The main point is that women can do the same jobs as men. Twenty Years of Hull-House is written not in chronological order (except for the first few chapters covering her childhood) but rather in topical order. I have never read anything quite like this before, and so this “review” is more of a collection of notes, quotes, and issues that stood out to me as I read it. Hull-House was a non-political, non-religious haven for those that had no other advocate in a busy city. Twenty Years at Hull-House is Jane Addams’ autobiography until about 1910, a chronicle of the various reforms she brought to life and some of the things that changed the lives of the immigrants (9,000 a year). Beyond her leadership, though, Addams was a friend to thousands of poor immigrants in the Chicago slums. In the coming decades and for the remainder of her life, Addams was an influential leader for Chicago social reform. After graduating from Rockford College, Addams determined to “live with the poor” (page 44). Jane Addams was born shortly before the Civil War to a privileged family in rural Illinois. Rather, the focus is squarely on the activities of Detroit area musicians, DJs, and other key players in the evolution of techno. Unlike other histories of electronic dance music, there's relatively little exploration of the music's peripheral culture, such as the rave scene. This book provides a fairly straightforward history of the birth and early development of techno music in Detroit. |
